SIR Diagnostic System Check

When measurements are requested in this table, use J 39200 DMM with the correct terminal adapter from J 35616-A Connector Test Adapter Kit. When a check for proper connection is requested, refer to Intermittents and Poor Connections in Diagrams / Information & Instructions. When a wire, connector, or terminal repair is requested, use J 38125-A Terminal Repair Kit and refer to Wiring Repair.

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The ECU-B Fuse supplies system voltage at all times through the AIR BAG indicator, to the center sensor assembly AIR BAG indicator input terminal 5. When the ignition switch is turned to ACC, system voltage is applied from the CIG & RADIO Fuse to the center sensor assembly at the DC-DC converter input terminal 16. The center sensor responds by illuminating the AIR BAG indicator for approximately six seconds while performing tests on the SRS. The IGN Fuse supplies system voltage to the center sensor assembly terminal 5 when the ignition switch is turned to the ON or START positions.

NOTES ON SYSTEM CHECK TABLE
1. This test checks to see if the AIR BAG indicator circuit is shorted to ground.
2. The AIR BAG indicator should illuminate steady for six seconds and then go off if there are no SRS malfunctions (no DTCs).
3. The AIR BAG indicator will remain illuminated steady if the center sensor assembly has detected a malfunction and stored a DTC.
4. Improper operation of the AIR BAG indicator is indicated. This test checks for a malfunction in the TC CKT.
5. This test checks for proper operation of flash code diagnostics.
6. This test checks to see if the center sensor assembly detected a source voltage drop.
7. This test checks to see if the DTC is current or intermittent.
