Table D Indicator Circuit Malfunction
When measurements are requested in this table, use J 39200 DMM with the correct terminal adapter from J 35616-A Connector Test Adapter Kit. When a check for proper connection is requested, refer to intermittents and Poor Connections in Diagrams, information. When a wire, connector or terminal repair is requested, use J 38125-A Terminal Repair Kit and refer to Wiring Repair.
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The AIR BAG indicator circuit consists of the instrument panel cluster (IPC), AIR BAG indicator, junction block 1 and the center sensor assembly. Voltage is applied to the AIR- BAG indicator (inside the IPC) at all times. When the ignition switch is turned to ACC or ON, the center sensor assembly grounds the LA CKT terminal 5 for six seconds while it performs the primary check. This causes the AIR BAG indicator to be illuminated. If the center sensor assembly detects a malfunction within the SRS, it will ground the LA CKT, illuminating the AIR BAG indicator.
If there is a malfunction within the AIR BAG indicator circuit, the AIR BAG indicator may not be able to illuminate. Therefore, it is important to diagnose and repair any malfunction(s) within the AIR BAG indicator circuit before continuing with other SRS diagnosis.
TABLE TEST DESCRIPTION
Numbers below refer to circled numbers on the diagnostic table.
3. This test checks for a good ECU-B Fuse.
4. This test determines whether the malfunction is due to a short to ground in the SW CKT or a malfunctioning center sensor assembly.
7. This test checks for a short to ground in the IPC circuit.
8. This test determines whether the malfunction is due to a short to ground in the B CKT.
11. This test checks for a short to ground in the AB CKT. or a malfunctioning IPC printed circuit.
13. This test checks for a short to ground in the lamp CKT.
17. This test checks for a malfunctioning junction block 1.
19. This test checks for a malfunctioning center sensor assembly.
21. This test checks for an open in the power feed to the ECU-B Fuse.
24. This test checks for an open in the SW CKT.
27. This test checks for an open in the IPC.
30. This test determines whether the IPC malfunction is due to an open AIR BAG indicator bulb or an open in the IPC printed circuit.
36. This test checks for an open in the B CKT.
38. This test checks for a malfunctioning junction block 1.
42. This test determines whether the malfunction is due to an open in the LA CKT or a malfunctioning center sensor assembly.
