EGR Valve: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor electrical connector.




^ Loosen the Air Cleaner (ACL) hose clamp bolt.
3. Remove the four cap clips from ACL.
4. Disconnect ACL hose and cap from engine compartment.




5. Disconnect the EGR Vacuum Regulator Solenoid valve-to-EGR valve vacuum hose from EGR valve.
6. Disconnect the EGR hose from bottom of EGR Pressure Transducer.




7. Remove two nuts and EGR valve from vehicle.




INSPECT
^ EGR valve for heavy carbon deposits and sticking. Replace as necessary.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install a new gasket and the EGR valve to intake manifold.
2. Secure the EGR valve with two nuts.
3. Connect the EGR Vacuum Regulator Solenoid-to-EGR valve vacuum hose to EGR valve.
4. Connect the EGR hose to bottom of the EGR Pressure Transducer.
5. Install the ACL hose and cap to engine compartment.
6. Connect the four cap clips to ACL.
TIGHTEN
^ ACL hose clamps bolt to 2.5 Nm (24 lb. in.).
7. Connect the IAT sensor electrical connector.
8. Connect the negative battery cable.
TIGHTEN
^ Negative (-) battery cable-to-negative (-) battery terminal retainer to 15 Nm (11 lb. ft.).
