Oil Pressure Test

NOTE: Prior to testing engine oil pressure, the following conditions must be met:
- Oil must be at the FULL mark on the oil level indicator (dipstick).
- If the oil is discolored or deteriorated, it must be changed.
- All oil leaks must be repaired.

TESTING PROCEDURES

- Tool Required:
- J 21867 Oil Pressure Gage
- Or Equivalent

1. Start engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature.
2. Stop engine.
3. Remove oil pressure switch electrical connector from oil pressure switch.
4. Remove oil pressure switch from engine.
5. Install a J 21867 in the oil pressure switch port.
6. Start engine and run at normal operating temperature.

Measure
- Oil pressure:
a. At idle (700 + 50 rpm), the oil pressure should be at least 29 kPa (4.3 psi).
b. At 3,000 rpm, oil pressure should be 245 to 490 kPa (36 to 71 psi).

7. Stop engine and remove the J 21867 from oil pressure switch port.
8. Install oil pressure switch to engine after applying Loctite(r) pipe sealant (with Teflon(r)) GM P/N 1052080, or equivalent, to the first few threads of the switch. Tighten oil pressure switch to 13 Nm (115 inch lbs.).
9. Connect oil pressure switch electrical connector to oil pressure switch.
10. Start engine and check for oil leaks around the oil pressure switch.
