Removal






- Tool Required - J 24270 Ridge Reamer, or equivalent.

1. Relieve fuel pressure. See Powertrain Management.
2. Negative (-) battery cable.
3. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
4. Drain engine coolant. See Cooling System.
5. Place a drain pan beneath oil pan to catch escaping oil.
6. Oil drain plug and gasket, allowing oil to drain.
7. Cylinder head.
8. Lower engine reinforcement brace.
9. Oil pan and oil pump screen.
10. Lower vehicle.
11. Mark all piston heads with number of cylinder for installation in the same location.

CAUTION: Decarbon the top of the cylinder bores using a ridge reamer before attempting to Remove piston from the cylinder.

12. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
13. Mark connecting rods and connecting rod bearing caps with number of cylinder for installation in the same location.

CAUTION: When removing pistons, keep all parts together in sets by cylinder and reinstall them in their original location.

14. Eight nuts and four connecting rod bearing caps from connecting rods. Keep lower connecting rod bearings with connecting rod bearing caps.
15. Push piston and connecting rod assembly through the top of the cylinder bore.
16. Upper connecting rod bearing from connecting rod.
17. Lower vehicle.
18. Pistons with connecting rods from cylinder bore.
