Reverse (R) Range
MECHANICAL OPERATION
In Reverse (R) range (reverse), the hydraulic system allows line pressure to apply the direct clutch and the 1st-reverse brake. As the direct clutch is engaged with the sun gem, the front planetary gear set rotates with the sun gear. The 1st reverse brake prevents the rear planetary carrier from rotating. Because the rear planetary carrier is held stationary, the sun gear causes the rear planetary carrier pinion gears to rotate counter-clockwise on their axis turning the rear planetary ring gear and output shaft counter-clockwise.
ELECTRICAL COMPONENT FUNCTION
Shift solenoid # 1-OFF
Shift solenoid # 2-OFF
HYDRAULIC COMPONENT FUNCTIONS
Clutch/band apply circuit:
- Direct clutch
Active holding devices:
- Direct clutch
- 1st-reverse brake
With the manual selector in R range (reverse), line pressure passes through the manual valve and is applied to the direct clutch. Direct clutch pressure is applied to the release side of the intermediate servo. Line pressure is also applied to the 2nd brake accumulators to reduce shock upon direct clutch engagement. The shift solenoid # 1 is de-energized applying line pressure to the 1-2 shift valve. The shift solenoid # 2 is de-energized relieving line pressure to the 2-3 shift valve preventing its operation. Line pressure is directed to the following valves and devices:
- Manual valve
- Direct clutch
- 1-2 shift valve
- B2 control valve
- Primary regulator valve
- Throttle valve
- 2nd brake accumulator
- Forward clutch accumulator
- Secondary regulator valve
- Cooler bypass valve
