Drive (D) or Second (2) Range - 2ND Gear

MECHANICAL OPERATION
In Drive (D) or Second (2) range (second gear), the hydraulic system allows line pressure to apply the forward clutch. As line pressure is applied to the forward clutch, the input shaft and the front planetary ring gear become engaged. This allows the clockwise rotation of the input shaft to be transmitted to the front planetary ring gear and then through the front planetary carrier. The 2nd brake band holds the sun gear stationary causing the front planetary carrier pinion gears to rotate around the sun gear. This causes the front planetary ring gear and output shaft to turn clockwise.

ELECTRICAL COMPONENT FUNCTION
Shift solenoid # 1-ON
Shift solenoid # 2-OFF

HYDRAULIC COMPONENT FUNCTIONS
Clutch/band apply circuit:
- Forward clutch
- 2nd brake band
Active holding devices:
- Forward clutch
- 2nd brake band

With the manual selector in Drive (D) or Second (2) range (second gear), line pressure passes through the manual valve and is applied directly to the forward clutch. Line pressure is also-applied to the 2nd brake and forward clutch accumulators to reduce shock upon clutch engagement. The shift solenoid # 1 is energized. This relieves line pressure to the 2-3 shift valve preventing its operation. The shift solenoid # 2 is de-energized causing line pressure to operate the 1-2 shift valve causing the 1-2 shift. Line pressure is directed to the following valves and devices:
- Manual valve
- Forward clutch
- 1-2 shift valve
- Intermediate servo
- Primary regulator valve
- Throttle valve
- 2nd brake accumulator
- Forward clutch accumulator
- Secondary regulator valve
- Cooler bypass valve
