Shift Solenoid #1

The shift solenoid # 1 is located on the valve body assembly and is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). When energized and de-energized by the PCM, the shift solenoid # 1 controls delivery of line pressure to the 2-3 shift valve. When the shift solenoid # 1 is de-energized, the 2-3 shift valve fluid exhaust passage is closed. When the passage is closed, line pressure is applied to the 2-3 shift valve causing a 2-3 gear shift. During a 3-2 downshift, the shift solenoid # 1 is energized, which opens the 3-2 shift valve fluid exhaust passage. Spring pressure then returns the 3-2 shift valve to its original position.
