Automatic Transaxle Equipped Vehicles

Starter Motor Assembly-Automatic Trasaxle Equipped Vehicles:




INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Lightly grease the gear shaft with Lubriplate (R) lubricant GM P/N 1050109, or equivalent.
2. Internal gear to gear shaft.
3. Overrunning clutch assembly and overrunning clutch stop ring to gear shaft assembly.

Installing Overrunning Clutch Retaining Ring:




4. Overrunning clutch retaining ring to gear shaft assembly. Slide overrunning clutch stop ring away from the overrunning clutch assembly to cover the overrunning retaining ring.
5. Lightly grease the pinion drive lever contact points with Lubriplate (R) lubricant GM P/N 1050109, or equivalent.
6. Gear shaft assembly with pinion drive lever to drive housing.
7. Pinion drive lever plate and seal to drive housing.
8. Lightly grease idle gears with Lubriplate (R) lubricant GM P/N 1050109, or equivalent.
9. Three idle gears to drive housing; secure with idle gear retainer.

Important: Align the notches in the idle gear retainer with the bolt holes in the drive housing.

10. Lightly grease armature bearing with Lubriplate (R) lubricant GM P/N 1050109, or equivalent.

Installing Armature Bearing:




11. Armature bearing to gear shaft.
12. Yoke to drive housing. Align the yoke-to-drive housing matchmarks.
13. Armature to yoke.
14. Armature bushing to armature.

Installing Brush Holder To Yoke:




15. Brush holder to yoke, connecting brushes to brush holder.

Important: The brushes must contact the commutator end after installation.

16. Spring washer and commutator end cover; secure with two bolts and two screws.
Tighten
^ Commutator end cover bolts to 8 N.m (71 lb. in.).
17. Solenoid to starter motor.
