TOOL REQUIRED- J 34853 Crankshaft Oil Seal Guide
- J 37747 Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer
REMOVAL
1. Negative (-) battery cable.
2. Engine oil level indicator from guide tube.
3. One bolt and guide tube from oil pump.
4. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
5. Engine oil pan and oil pump strainer.
6. Timing belt and belt tensioner.
7. Air conditioner compressor and bracket from cylinder block (if equipped). See Heating and Air Conditioning.
8. Lock crankshaft with slotted screwdriver.
9. Timing belt guide.
10. Lower vehicle.
11. Seven oil pump mounting bolts and oil pump from cylinder block with rubber seal.
12. Rotor plate Dins from oil pump.
INSTALLATION
1. Rotor plate pins into oil pump body.
2. Crankshaft oil seal into oil pump body using a Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer.
3. Apply engine oil to a Crankshaft Oil Seal Guide and fit to crankshaft.
4. Oil pump to cylinder block using a Crankshaft Oil Seal Guide to help install the oil seal over the crankshaft.
CAUTION: During oil pump installation, ensnare that oil seal lip is not turned out.
5. Remove the Crankshaft Oil Seal Guide.
6. Apply GM P/N 12346004 or equivalent, to the thread portion of the short oil pump mounting bolt indicated.
7. Oil pump mounting bolts to oil pump assembly. Tighten oil pump mounting bolts to 11 Nm (97 inch lbs.).
8. Rubber seal between oil pump and coolant pump.
9. Edge of oil pump gasket might bulge out; if it does, cut bulge off with sharp knife, making edge smooth and flush with end faces of pump case and cylinder block.
10. Timing belt guide with concave side facing oil pump.
11. Lock crankshaft.
12. Air conditioner compressor and bracket to cylinder block (if equipped). See Heating and Air Conditioning.
13. Engine oil pan and oil pump strainer.
14. Timing belt and timing belt tensioner.
15. Lower vehicle.
16. New guide tube oil seal to oil pump.
17. Guide tube to oil pump; secure with one bolt. Tighten guide tube bolt to 11 Nm (97 inch lbs.).
18. Engine oil level indicator to guide tube.
19. Refill engine oil to specifications.
20. Negative (-) battery cable.
21. Upon completion of installation, start engine and check exhaust system for exhaust leaks. After completing that inspection, check engine oil pressure by running engine.
