Cylinder Head - Installation
INSTALLATION1. Cylinder head gasket. Install new cylinder head gasket as shown with the TOP mark facing up (toward cylinder head) and on crankshaft timing pulley side.
2. Cylinder head; secure with ten cylinder head bolts after applying engine oil to each bolt. Tighten cylinder head-to-engine blocks bolts to 73 Nm (54 ft. lbs.) following sequence. Tighten a little at a time and evenly among bolts, repeat tightening sequence three or four times before reaching specified torque.
3. Rubber seal between coolant pump and cylinder head.
4. Timing belt and belt tensioner.
5. Distributor case to cylinder head. See Powertrain Management.
6. Distributor to cylinder head. See Powertrain Management.
7. Throttle body and intake manifold.
8. Exhaust manifold. See Exhaust System.
9. Cylinder head cover, secure with four new seal washers and nuts. Tighten cylinder head cover nuts to 5 Nm (44 inch lbs.).
10. Negative (-) battery cable.
11. Refill engine coolant to specifications. See Cooling System.
12. Upon completion of installation, check coolant system for coolant leaks. After completing that inspection, start engine and check exhaust system for exhaust leaks and check engine oil pressure.
