Cylinder Head - Disassembly

TOOL REQUIRED
- J 37979 Valve Spring Compressor Adapter
- J 8062 Valve Spring Compressor
- J 34834 Valve Guide Remover/Installer

CAUTION: Keep all disassembled parts except valve stem seals and valve guides (which must be replaced) in order by cylinder so they can be installed in their original positions.

REMOVAL
1. Loosen all valve spring adjusting screw lock nuts and back off adjusting screws, allowing all valves to close.
2. Ten screws and rocker arm shafts, springs and rocker arms.
3. Camshaft from cylinder head by sliding out at transaxle end.








4. Using Valve Spring Compressor with Valve Spring Compressor Adapter, compress valve springs and remove valve cotters from valve.
5. Release and remove the Valve Spring Compressor and Valve Spring Compressor Adapter.





6. Valve spring retainer, valve spring, valve from combustion chamber side, valve guide, valve spring seat and valve stem seal from cylinder head.

CAUTION: Do not reuse valve stem seal once disassembled. Be sure to use new seal when reassembling.

7. Using a Guide Remover/Installer, drive valve guide out from combustion chamber side to valve spring side.

CAUTION: Do not reuse valve guide once disassembled. Be sure to use new valve guide when reassembling.

8. Repeat procedure for remaining valve assemblies as required.

CAUTION: Be sure that all cylinder head parts are reinstalled in the same cylinder they were removed from.
