Rocker Arm Assembly: Testing and Inspection
TOOL REQUIRED- J 8001 Dial Indicator Set
- J 26900-13 Magnetic Base
RUNOUT
MEASURE
Set rocker arm shaft between two V blocks and measure runout using a Magnetic Base. If measured runout exceeds limit of 0.12 mm (0.004 inch) replace rocker arm shaft.
TOOL REQUIRED
- J 29600-1 Outside Micrometer
- J 26900-14 Small Hole Gage
CLEARANCE
1. The diameter of the rocker arm shafts using a Outside Micrometer at the points where rocker arms are mounted. Standard diameter is 15.973 to 15.988 mm (0.628 to 0.629 inch).
2. The inside diameter of the rocker arms using a Small Hole Gage. Standard inside diameter is 16.000 to 16.018 mm (0.629 to 0.630 inch).
3. Subtract rocker arm shaft diameter from rocker arm inside diameter to determine rocker arm clearance.
4. Standard clearance is 0.012 to 0.045 mm (0.0005 to 0.0017 inch). Maximum clearance is 0.09 mm (0.0035 inch).
5. If rocker arm clearance is not within limit, replace the rocker arm shaft or rocker arm as necessary.
