Piston Ring End Gap

CAUTION: Remove carbon deposits and clean the top of the cylinder bore before measuring piston ring end gap.





MEASURE
1. Insert each compression ring 120 mm (4.72 inch) into the cylinder bore (Figure 84).
2. Compression ring end gap using a feeler gage.
- Standard compression ring end gap is 0.2 to 0.3 mm (0.0079 to 0.0118 inch).
- If the compression ring end gap is greater than 0.7 mm (0.0275 inch), replace the compression ring. Measure the lower compression ring in the same manner.
3. Remove the compression ring and insert the oil ring 120 mm (4.72 inch), replace the oil ring.
