Connecting Rod: Testing and Inspection

SIDE CLEARANCE
1. Install the bearing in the connecting rod and the connecting rod cap.
2. Install the connecting rod bearing cap to connecting rod; secure with two connecting rod bearing cap nests. Tighten connecting rod bearing cap nuts to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).





3. Check connecting rod for side clearance with a feel gage. Standard side clearance is 0.10 to 0.20 mm (0.0039 to 0.0078 inch). If measurement clearance exceeds limit of 0.35 mm (0.0137 inch), replace connecting rod.

ALIGNMENT
Check connecting rod for bow and/or twist. If bow exceeds limit of 0.005 mm (0.00020 inch) or twist exceeds limit of 0.10 mm (0.0039 inch), replace the connecting rod.
