Diagnostic Chart:
Description:
Circuit Description
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors throttle opening, engine speed, vehicle speed and gear position and compares the actual engine speed and its specified value (i.e., engine speed obtained by PCM through calculation using the throttle opening/gear position and vehicle speed).
Conditions for Setting the DTC
^ While running in Drive (D) range after engine warmed up, engine speed as compared with vehicle speed is not within acceptable range.
^ Two driving cycle detection logic.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
A DTC P0751 is stored and the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) indicator is turned ON.
Diagnostic Aids
Check the following conditions:
^ Throttle Valve (TV) cable out of adjustment.
^ Shift select cable out of adjustment.
^ Clogged or leaky shift solenoid valve #1.
^ Transaxle mechanical malfunction.
^ Valve body fluid passage clogged.
^ Torque convener clutch malfunction.
^ Faulty PCM.
If this DTC cannot be duplicated, the information included in the Freeze Frame data can be useful in determining vehicle operating conditions when the DTC was first set.
DTC Confirmation Procedure
1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK.
2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC).
3. Turn ignition switch to ON.
4. Clear DTC, pending DTC and freeze frame data in PCM memory by using scan tool.
5. Stan engine and warm up to normal operating temperature.
6. Accelerate vehicle in Drive (D) range and check for up shifting from 1st, to 2nd and to 3rd as vehicle speed increases.
7. Stop vehicle.
8. Check for pending DTC with scan tool.
Test Description
Numbers below refer to circled numbers on the diagnostic chart.
1. The Powertrain OBD System Check prompts the technician to complete some basic checks and store the freeze frame data on the scan tool if applicable. This creates an electronic copy of the data taken when the fault occurred. The information is then stored in the scan tool for later reference.
3. Checks for proper shift points.
5. Checks for a leaky shift solenoid #1.
6. Checks for a stuck closed shift solenoid #1.
9. Checks the condition of the valve body assembly.
10. Checks for a faulty PCM.
