Gearshift Control Shaft and Extension Rod
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT1. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
2. Gearshift control shaft rear through bolt and nut from gearshift control lever.
3. Gearshift control joint .through bolt and nut at transaxle gearshift shaft and gearshift control shaft with gearshift control shaft joint from vehicle.
4. Gearshift control shaft front through bolt and nut from gearshift control shaft joint and separate gearshift control shaft joint from gearshift control shaft.
5. Four gearshift control lever guide plate bolts and separate extension rod from gearshift control lever guide plate.
6. Extension rod retaining nut and two washers at extension rod mounting stud on transaxle and remove extension rod from vehicle.
Inspect
- Gearshift control shaft and extension rod bushings for excessive wear or damage. Replace as necessary.
- Gearshift control shaft for damage or distortion. Replace as necessary.
- Extension rod for damage or distortion. Replace as necessary.
- Gearshift control joint for damage or distortion. Replace as necessary.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Extension rod onto extension rod mounting stud; secure with two washers and extension rod retaining nut.
2. Extension rod to gearshift control lever guide plate; secure with four gearshift control lever guide plate bolts.
Tighten
- Gearshift control lever guide plate bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb. in.).
- Extension rod retaining nut to 40 N.m (29 lb. ft.).
3. Gearshift control shaft joint to gearshift control shaft; secure with gearshift control shaft front through bolt and nut.
Tighten
- Gearshift control shaft front through bolt and nut to 20 N.m (15 lb. ft.).
4. Gearshift control shaft to transaxle gearshift shaft; secure with gearshift control joint through bolt and nut.
5. Gearshift control shaft to gearshift control lever; secure with gearshift control shaft rear through bolt and nut.
Tighten
- Gearshift control joint through bolt and nut to 20 N.m (15 lb. ft.).
- Gearshift control shaft front through bolt and nut to 20 N.m (15 lb. ft.).
6. Lower vehicle.
