Case: Service and Repair

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
2. Place a drain pan or suitable container under transaxle.





3. Transaxle oil level/filler plug from transaxle.
4. Transaxle drain plug from transaxle using a 10 mm hex head socket or wrench, and drain transaxle oil.
5. Five retaining clips and left splash shield from vehicle.
6. Eight bolts and transaxle side cover from left case.

Important
- If transaxle side cover is frozen to the transaxle case, tap around the transaxle side cover with a rubber mallet until the transaxle side cover is free of the left case. DO NOT attempt to pry the end cover away from the left case with metal tools or damage to the sealant mating surfaces could result.

Clean
- Transaxle side cover mating surfaces.

Inspect
- Mating surfaces for distortion or damage. Replace as necessary.





INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Apply GM P/N 12346240, or equivalent, to the transaxle side cover mating surfaces.
2. Transaxle side cover to the left case; secure with eight transaxle side cover bolts.

Tighten
- Transaxle side cover bolts-in a diagonal pattern to 12 N.m (106 lb. in.).

3. Left splash shield to vehicle; secure with five retaining clips.
4. Apply GM P/N 12346004, or equivalent, to the threaded portion of the transaxle drain plug.
5. Transaxle drain plug into transaxle.

Tighten
- Transaxle drain plug to 21 N.m (15 lb. ft.).

6. Add approximately 2.4 liters (2.5 qts.) of Castrol (tm) Syntorq Transmission Fluid GM P/N 123190, or equivalent, into the transaxle oil level/filler plug hole. Oil level should be even with the bottom of the Transaxle oil level/filler plug hole.
7. Transaxle oil level/filler plug into transaxle after applying GM P/N 12346004 equivalent, to plug threads.

Tighten
- Transaxle oil level/filler plug to 21 N.m (15 lb. ft.).

8. Remove drain pan from under transaxle.
9. Lower vehicle.
