Combination Switch Replacement

NOTE: In the event deployment has occurred, inspect the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) coil assembly wire for any signs of scorching, melting or other damage due to excessive heat. If the coil assembly is damaged, replace it.





REMOVAL

CAUTION: Place the ignition switch in the "LOCK" position to prevent the SIR coil assembly from becoming uncentered.

Remove or disconnect the following:
1. Disable the SIR.
2. Negative (-) battery cable. Refer to Battery.
3. Steering wheel from column.
4. Knee bolster.
5. Loosen two upper steering column TORX(R) headed mounting bolts and lower column slightly.





6. Upper and lower steering column covers by removing five screws from the lower cover.
7. SIR coil and combination switch electrical connectors.





8. Loosen SIR coil and combination switch electrical harness wire bands.





9. SIR coil and combination switch from column by removing three screws.

INSTALLATION
Install or connect the following:
1. SIR coil and combination switch to column; secure with three screws.
2. SIR coil and combination switch electrical connectors and secure harness to column with wire bands.
3. Upper and lower column covers; secure with five screws
4. Tighten:
^ Two upper steering column mounting TORX(R) headed bolts.
^ Upper steering column Mounting bolts to 14 Nm (10 lb ft)
5. Knee bolster.
6. Lower steering column trim cover; secure with three screws.
7. Steering wheel to steering column.
8. Negative (-) battery cable.
9. Enable the SIR.
