Throttle Body: Service Precautions
CAUTION: The Throttle Position (TP) sensor, the fuel pressure regulator diaphragm assembly, the fuel injector or any other components containing rubber should not be placed in a solvent or cleaner bath. A chemical reaction will cause these parts to swell, harden or distort. Do not soak the TBI unit with the above parts attached. If the TBI unit requires cleaning, soaking time in the cleaner should be kept to a minimum. Some models have hidden throttle shaft dust seals that could lose their effectiveness by extended soaking.Clean
^ All Throttle Body Fuel Injection (TBI) unit component parts, with the exception of those noted in the above cautions, should be cleaned in a cold immersion cleaner such as Carbon X (X-55) or equivalent.
^ Clean all the metal parts thoroughly and blow dry with shop air.
^ Be sure that all the fuel and air passages are free of dirt or burns.
Inspect
^ Inspect the casting mating surfaces for damage that could affect proper gasket sealing.
^ Inspect that the throttle valve lever moves freely and smoothly.
