Exhaust Pipe: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Raise and suitably support vehicle.





2. Two nuts and resonator/muffler/tail pipe assembly from front pipe/three way catalytic converter (TWC) assembly.
3. One bolt and hanger from pipe at resonator.
4. Three bolts and hangers from muffler.

5. Remove resonator/muffler/tail pipe assembly from vehicle by turning it counterclockwise, then pulling back and moving it toward the wheel. Clean seal mating surfaces.

INSTALLATION





1. Resonator/muffler/tail pipe assembly to vehicle by sliding it in near wheel opening, then turning it clockwise and pushing forward.
2. Resonator/muffler/tail pipe assembly, with new gasket, to front pipe/TWC assembly; secure with two nuts. Do not tighten fully.
3. Hanger to pipe at resonator; secure with one bolt. Do not tighten fully. Align all system components properly to prevent any noise or vibrations before tightening fasteners. Tighten;
^ Front pipe/TWC assembly-to-resonator/ muffler/tail pipe assembly nuts to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
^ All hanger bolts to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).
4. Lower vehicle.
