Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair

WARNING: To avoid danger of being burned, do not service exhaust system while it is still hot. Service should be performed after system cools down.

REMOVAL
1. Negative (-) battery cable.
2. Raise and suitably support vehicle.





3. Two bolts and front pipe/three way catalytic converter (TWC) assembly from exhaust manifold, or Warm Up Catalytic Converter (WU/TWC) if equipped.
4. Lower vehicle.





5. Heated Oxygen Sensor (H02S1) electrical connector.
6. Three bolts and exhaust manifold heat shield from exhaust manifold.
7. Four bolts, three nuts and engine hanger from exhaust manifold.
8. Exhaust manifold and gasket from cylinder head.

INSTALLATION
1. New exhaust manifold gasket to cylinder.
2. Exhaust manifold; secure with engine hanger, four bolts and three nuts. Tighten exhaust manifold bolts and nuts to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.).
3. Exhaust manifold heat shield to exhaust manifold; secure with three bolts. Tighten heat shield bolts to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).
4. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
5. Front pipe/TWC, or Warm up/TWC assembly to exhaust manifold with new seal; secure with two bolts. Tighten exhaust manifold-to-front pipe/TWC assembly bolts to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.).
6. Lower vehicle.
7. H02S1 electrical connector.
8. Negative (-) battery cable.
9. Check exhaust system for exhaust gas leakage.
