REMOVAL
1. Relieve fuel pressure. See Powertrain Management.
2. Negative (-) battery cable.
3. Drain coolant system. See Cooling System.
4. Hood assembly. See Body and Frame.
5. Air cleaner (ACL).
6. Radiator with cooling fan. See Cooling System.
7. The following electrical connectors:
- Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector.
- Coolant temperature sending unit electrical connector.
- Throttle Position (TP) Sensor electrical connector.
- Exhaust gas recirculation solenoid vacuum valve electrical connector.
- Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve or idle speed control (ISC) motor electrical connector.
- Ground wires from intake manifold
- Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S1) electrical connector.
- Throttle Body Fuel Injection (TBI) unit electrical connector.
- Manifold absolute pressure sensor electrical connector.
- Early Fuel Evaporation (EFE) heater electrical connector (if equipped).
- Oil pressure switch-electrical connector.
- Generator electrical connectors.
- Starter solenoid electrical connectors.
- Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor pressure switch electrical connector (if equipped).
8. Release wiring harness from retaining clamps.
Vacuum Hose Connections And Routing:
9. The following vacuum hoses:
- EVAP canister hose from EVAP canister pipe.
- MAP sensor hose from intake manifold or Throttle Body (TB).
- Brake booster hose from intake manifold.
- IAC valve hose from TBI unit.
10. The following cables:
- Accelerator cable from throttle body.
- Clutch cable from transaxle (manual transaxle equipped vehicles).
- Shift select cable and TV cable from transaxle (automatic transaxle equipped vehicles).
- Speedometer cable from transaxle.
11. Heater inlet and outlet hoses.
12. Fuel return hose and fuel feed hose from throttle body.
13. Support engine using a Universal Support Fixture with a Engine Support Fixture Adapters.
14. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
15. Two nuts and front pipe/three way catalytic converter (TWC) assembly from resonator/muffler/tail pipe assembly.
16. Gearshift control shaft and extension rod from transaxle (manual transaxle equipped vehicles). See Transmission and Drivetrain.
17. Place a drain pan beneath engine oil pan to catch escaping oil.
18. Engine oil drain plug and gasket, allowing engine oil to drain.
19. Two bolts and front pipe/TWC assembly from exhaust manifold).
20. Hanger supporting TWC and remove front pipe/TWC assembly from vehicle.
21. Drain transaxle fluid. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
22. Drive axles (left and right) from transaxle. For engine/transaxle removal, it is not necessary to remove drive axle from steering knuckle. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
23. Remove A/C compressor (if equipped) from compressor bracket with hose still attached.
24. Torque rod (automatic transaxle equipped vehicles).
25. Lower vehicle.
26. Remove the Universal Support Fixture and the Engine Support Fixture Adapters.
27. Install suitable engine lifting device.

29. Right side engine mount.
30. Rear engine mount.
31. Engine with transaxle from vehicle, ensuring clearance on all sides.
