Piston Ring Groove Clearance

Measure piston compression ring(s) groove clearance. Before measuring, the piston groove(s) must be clean, dry and free of carbon. Fit the new piston compression ring(s) into groove and measure the clearance between the ring and the ring land by using a feeler gage. If the ring groove clearance is not between 0.03 and 0.07 mm(0.0012 and 0.0027 inch) (top ring) or 0.02 and 0.06 mm (0.0008 and 0.0023 inch) (second compression ring), replace the piston.
