Piston Ring End Gap

CAUTION: Remove carbon deposits and clean the top of the cylinder bore before measuring piston ring end gap.

1. Insert each compression ring into the top of the cylinder bore. Leave the ring at the top of the cylinder bore.





2. Compression ring end gap using a feeler gage
- Standard compression ring end gap is 0.2 to 0.3 mm (0.0079 to 0.0118 inch).
- If the compression ring end gap is greater than 0.7 mm (0.0275 inch), replace the compression ring. Measure the second compression ring in the same manner.
3. Remove the compression ring and insert the oil ring into the top of the cylinder bore. Leave the ring at the top of the cylinder bore.
4. Oil ring end gap using a feeler gage.
- Standard oil ring gap is 0.2 to 0.6 mm (0.0079 to 0.0236 inch).
- If the oil ring gap is greater than 1.8 mm (0.0708 inch), replace the oil ring.
