Piston Ring: Description and Operation

This engine is equipped with three piston rings (two compression rings and an oil ring). Of the two compression rings (upper and lower), the upper compression ring is plated with hard chromium for improved abrasion resistance. The lower compression ring is constructed of gray iron. The oil (bottom) ring consists of two rails with a spacer in between them.
