System Self Test
The initialization is a two-step process. It starts when the ignition switch is first turned to the ON position.During the first part of the initialization, the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) will verify ABS relay operation. Also, the EBCM commands the ABS and the ABS ACTIVE indicator lamps ON for three seconds. The red BRAKE warning indicator lamp is briefly flashed ON.
The second part of this process starts when the vehicle reaches 5 km/h (3 mph). During this process, the EBCM will verify motor, hydraulic modulator and solenoids by using specific control schemes to verify all components are functioning properly. A slight mechanical noise may be heard during the system initialization, which is normal. If your foot is on the brake pedal during this process, a slight movement in the pedal may be felt.
