Table C-8A Manual Transaxle Upshift Indicator Check
Diagnostic Chart:
Wiring Diagram:
Circuit Description
The upshift indicator indicates the best transaxie shift point for maximum fuel economy. The indicator is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and is turned ON by grounding the Upshift indicator control circuit wire from the I/P cluster assembly to the PCM.
If the Upshift Indicator control circuit wire is grounded the lamp will be ON all the time. If the circuit is open, the indicator will not light when commanded by the PCM.
Diagnostic Aids
Inspect the electrical harness connectors for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals and poor terminal-to-wire connections before component replacement.
An intermittent malfunction, may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation, or a wire broken inside the insulation.
If any wiring repairs need to be made, Refer to Repair Procedures in Electrical Diagrams.
Test Description
The numbers below refer to the step numbers in the Diagnostic Table.
1. The Powertrain OBD System Check prompts the technician to complete some basic checks and store the freeze frame data on the scan tool if applicable. This creates an electronic copy of the data taken when the fault occurred. The information is then stored in the scan tool for later reference.
2. This checks the upshift indicator's operation with the ignition switch in the ON position.
