O. Valve Body Assembly and Accumulators

INSTALL OR CONNECT

- Tool Required:
- J 36850 Transjel Transmission Assembly Lubricant





1. New manual shaft fluid seal into transaxle case using a 14 mm socket and a hammer.
2. Apply J 36850 to the new manual shaft fluid seal lip.








3. Manual detent lever, washer and manual shaft into transaxle case; secure with one retaining spring.





4. One roll pin into manual detent lever using a standard drift punch and hammer.
5. Slide the protection sleeve onto the manual detent lever hub to cover roll pin.





6. Stake the protection sleeve to the manual lever hub.
7. Two new C3 accumulator piston seals onto the C3 accumulator piston.
8. Apply J 36850 to the two new C3 accumulator piston seals.
9. C3 accumulator piston and spring into transaxle case.
10. One new C1 accumulator piston seal onto C1 accumulator piston.
11. Apply J 36850 to the new C1 accumulator piston seal.
12. C1 accumulator piston and spring into transaxle case.
13. Two new C2 accumulator piston seals onto C2 accumulator piston.
14. Apply J 36850 to the two new C2 accumulator piston seals.
15. C2 accumulator piston and spring into transaxle case.
16. Two new B2 accumulator piston seals onto B2 accumulator piston.
17. Apply J 36850 to the two new B2 accumulator piston seals.
18. B2 accumulator piston and spring into transaxle.

Important: When installing the intermediate brake apply tube, make sure the flexible end of the intermediate brake apply tube is inserted toward the intermediate brake drum (toward the inside of the transaxle).

19. Intermediate brake apply tube into transaxle case.





20. Intermediate brake apply seal into transaxle case.





21. Check ball body and spring into transaxle case.
22. Valve body assembly onto transaxle case while simultaneously connecting manual valve link to manual detent lever; secure with seventeen bolts.
- Tighten valve body assembly bolts to 10 Nm (89 ft. lbs.).

Inspect
- TV cable O-ring for cuts or other damage. Replace as necessary.

23. Apply J 36850 to the TV cable O-ring.
24. TV cable into transaxle case and throttle valve cam.

Inspect
- Solenoid wire harness O-ring for cuts or other damage. Replace as necessary.

25. Apply J 36850 to the solenoid wire harness O-ring.
26. Solenoid wire harness into transaxle case.
27. Solenoid wire harness clip onto valve body assembly; secure with one bolt.
- Tighten solenoid wire harness clip bolt to 6 Nm (53 ft. lbs.).





28. Manual detent spring into transaxle case; secure with one bolt.
- Tighten manual detent spring bolt to 10 Nm (89 ft. lbs.).
29. Electrical connectors to shift solenoids No.1, No.2 and TCC solenoid.

Clean
- Fluid filter screen and dry thoroughly.

Inspect
- Fluid filter screen mesh for tears or other damage. Replace as necessary.








30. New fluid filter screen gasket and fluid filter screen onto valve body assembly; secure with three bolts.
- Tighten fluid filter screen bolts to 10 Nm (89 ft. lbs.).

Clean
- Transaxle fluid pan and magnets thoroughly.





31. New transaxle fluid pan gasket and transaxle fluid pan onto transaxle case; secure with eighteen bolts.
- Tighten transaxle fluid pan bolts to 5 Nm (44 ft. lbs.).





32. Solenoid wire harness retaining bolt into solenoid wire harness.
- Tighten solenoid wire harness retaining bolt to 5 Nm (44 ft. lbs.).
33. TV cable retaining bolt into TV cable.
- Tighten TV cable retaining bolt to 5 Nm (44 ft. lbs.).
