Throttle Body: Service and Repair
THROTTLE BODY REPLACEMENTPRELIMINARY STEPS
^ Relieve fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.
^ Drain engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System / Service and Repair.
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Accelerator cable and cruise control cable (If equipped) from Air Cleaner (ACL) assembly clip.
2. Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor electrical connector.
^ Loosen the Air Cleaner hose clamp bolt on throttle body.
3. Four cap clips from ACL.
4. ACL hose and cap from throttle body.
5. Two nuts and accelerator cable from cable bracket and throttle lever.
6. Two nuts and Throttle Valve (TV) cable from cable bracket and throttle lever (automatic transaxle only).
Removing Accelerator Cable Bracket:
7. Two bolts and accelerator cable bracket throttle body.
Throttle Body Vacuum Hoses:
8. Two EGR vacuum hoses from throttle body (If Equipped).
9. One Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) vacuum hose from throttle body.
10. Throttle Position (TP) sensor electrical connector.
11. Idle Air Control (IAC) valve electrical connector.
12. Two clamps and engine coolant hoses and air hose from throttle body.
Removing Throttle Body:
13. Two nuts, two bolts and throttle body from the intake manifold.
14. Throttle body gasket from throttle body.
DISASSEMBLE
Removing IAC Valve:
1. Remove four screws and IAC valve and gasket from throttle body.
Removing TP Sensor:
2. Remove two screws and TP sensor from throttle body.
3. Two screws and throttle opener from throttle body (If equipped).
ASSEMBLE
1. Throttle opener to throttle body (If equipped); secure with two screws.
2. TP sensor to throttle body; secure with two screws.
3. IAC valve and new gasket to throttle body; secure with four screws.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. New throttle body gasket to throttle body.
2. Throttle body to intake manifold; secure with two nuts and two bolts. Tighten throttle body nuts and bolts to 22 Nm (16 lb. ft.).
3. Two engine coolant hoses and air hose to throttle body; secure with two clamps.
4. IAC valve electrical connector.
5. TP sensor electrical connector.
6. One EVAP vacuum hose to throttle body.
7. Two EGR vacuum hoses to throttle body (If equipped).
8. Accelerator cable bracket to throttle body; secure with two bolts.
^ Accelerator cable bracket bolts to 11 Nm (97 lb. in.).
9. TV cable to cable bracket and throttle lever; secure with two nuts (automatic transaxle only). Do not tighten fully. Adjust TV cable. Refer to Transmission and Drivetrain / Automatic Transmission/Transaxle / Adjustments.
10. Accelerator cable to cable bracket and throttle lever; secure with two nuts. Tighten accelerator cable adjusting nuts to 8 Nm (71 lb. in.).
11. ACL hose and cap to throttle body.
12. Four cap clips to ACL. Tighten ACL hose clamp bolt to 15 Nm (11 lb. ft.).
13. IAT sensor electrical connector.
14. Accelerator cable and cruise control cable (If equipped) from ACL assembly clip. Refill engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System / Service and Repair.
15. Negative (-) battery cable. Tighten negative (-) battery cable-to-negative (-) battery terminal retainer to 15 Nm (11 lb. ft.).
ADJUST
TP sensor. Refer to Throttle Position Sensor Adjustment.
Throttle Opener. Refer to Throttle Opener Adjustment.
AFTER REPAIR INSPECTION
Turn ignition switch to "ON" and momentarily connect a jumper between Data Link Connector (DLC) terminals "+B" and "Fp" to pressurize the fuel system. Check for any fuel leaks.
