Catalytic Converter: Description and Operation

DESCRIPTION
This vehicle is equipped with either a Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) or a Warm Up Three Way Catalytic Converter (WU TWC). Catalytic converters are emission control devices added to the exhaust system on gasoline engines to reduce pollutants from the exhaust gas stream.

WARNING: Prolonged operation with a misfiring or flooded engine may cause the TWC or the WU TWC (if equipped) to overheat. This could cause damage to either the catalyst itself or the operating vehicle and possible personal injury.

CAUTION:
^ When jacking or lifting the vehicle from frame side rails, be certain that the lift pads do not contact the catalytic converter; damage to the converter may result.
^ Catalytic converters require the use of unleaded fuel only, or damage to the catalyst may result.

SERVICE NOTE
The catalyst is not serviceable; the TWC and WU TWC must be replaced if problems occur.
