Clearing Trouble Codes
Tool Required:TK00000 TECH 1 Modular Diagnostic System
SRS DTCs are stored in EEPROM and can not be cleared by disconnecting the negative (-) battery cable. To clear SRS DTCs, connect a TECH 1 to the DLC (with 3000015 adapter and "Mass Storage" cartridge), plug the power cord into the cigar lighter and turn the ignition switch to "ACC" or "ON." The TECH 1 will clear the DTCs by alternately grounding terminal "Tc" and terminal "AB" of the DLC. If, after repeated attempts, the DTCs will not clear, proceed to "Chart F TECH 1 Cannot Communicate With SRS."
If a TECH 1 is not available, SRS DTCs can be cleared by the following procedure:
1. Connect two test leads to terminals "Tc" and "AB" of the DLC.
IMPORTANT:
^ Make sure that the test leads have sufficient length to reach into the passenger compartment. If the leads are too short, you will not be able watch the air bag indicator and, consequently not know if the DTCs were cleared.
2. Route the test leads into the passenger compartment.
3. Turn the ignition switch to "ACC" or "ON" and wait at least six seconds.
4. Ground the test lead connected to terminal "Tc" for one second.
5. Remove the "Tc" test lead from ground an IMMEDIATELY ground the test lead connected to terminal "AB" for one second.
6. Repeat this procedure two more times.
7. Continuously ground the "Tc" test lead until the air bag indicator flashes rapidly (50 millisecond cycles - If the air bag indicator remains illuminated, the repeat Steps 4, 5 and 6.
IMPORTANT:
^ If, after repeated attempts, the DTCs will not clear, proceed to "Chart E DTCs Will Not-Clear."
8. Turn the ignition switch to "LOCK."
9. Disconnect the test leads from the DLC.
