Valve Lifters and Lifter Bores

Tools Required:
J 26900-6 Dial Caliper
J 26900-2 Outside Micrometer

- Lifter bore diameter using a J 26900-6. The lifter bore diameter must he 31.000 to 31.025 mm (1.2205 to 1.2215-inches).
- Lifter diameter using a J 26900-2. The lifter diameter must be 30.966 to 30.976 mm (1.2191 to 1.2195-inches).
- Determine the lifter oil clearance by subtracting the lifter diameter measurement from the lifter bore diameter measurement. The standard oil clearance is 0.020 to 0.051 mm (0.0008 to 0.0020-inch). If the oil clearance is greater than 0.07 mm (0.0028-inch), replace the lifter and measure the oil clearance again. If the oil clearance still exceeds 0.07 mm (0.0028-inch), replace the cylinder head.
