Remove or Disconnect

Tool Required:
J 37133 Valve Guide Bushing Remover/ Installer

- Gradually heat cylinder head to 80 to 100°C (176 to 212°F). Heat cylinder uniformly to prevent the head from distorting during heating.
- Using a J 37133, tap out valve guide bushing.

Measure

Tool Required:
J 37133 Valve Guide Bushing Remover/Installer

- Valve guide bushing bore diameter using a J 26900-14. Standard valve guide bore diameter is 11.0 to 11.027 mm (0.4331 to 0.4341-inch).
- If the bushing bore diameter is greater than 11.027 mm (0.4341-inch), machine the valve guide bushing bore to 11.050 to 11.077 mm (0.4350 to 0.4361-inch).
- If the valve guide bushing bore is greater than 11.077 mm (0.4361-inch), replace the cylinder head.

Install or Connect

Tools Required:
J 37133 Valve Guide Bushing Remover/Installer
J 38277 Adapter
J 38342 Reamer

- Select a new valve guide bushing. If the valve guide bushing bore has a diameter of 1.000 to 11.027 mm (0.4331 to 0.4341-inch), use a new standard size valve guide bushing. If the bore has a diameter of 11.050 to 11.077 mm (0.4350 to 0.4361-inch), use a new oversize bushing.
- Gradually heat cylinder head to 80 to 100°C (176 to 212°F). Heat cylinder uniformly to prevent the head from distorting during heating.
- Using a J 37133 and J 38277, drive in the new valve guide bushing, leaving 12.7 to 13.01 mm (0.500 to 0.516-inch) protruding from the cylinder head.
- Using a J 38342, ream the valve guide hushing to obtain the proper oil clearance between the valve and the bushing.
