DTC 71
Code Chart 71:
EGR Valve Circuit:
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION:
Code 71 indicates that the EGR Gas Temperature Sensor has signaled the ECM of a temperature above or below the calibrated range. The EGR temperature sensor is used by the ECM to detect one of the following:
^ EGR valve opened when not commanded by the ECM.
^ EGR valve did not open when commanded by the ECM.
^ EGR valve stuck in the opened postion.
The EGR temperature sensor is a thermistor whose resistance changes relative to temperature change in the EGR valve exhaust gas passage of the intake manifold.
TEST DESCRIPTION: Numbers below refer to circled numbers on the diagnostic chart.
1. The ECM should provide 4-5 volts to the EGR Gas Temperature Sensor.
2. The ECM provides ground for the EGR Gas Temperature Sensor.
3. Checks EGR temperature sensor resistance.
