1. On all models equipped with the SIR or inflatable restraint systems, disable system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG DEACTIVATION before performing any repair procedures on or near steering column.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Remove SIR module mounting screws and SIR module, Fig. 5.
4. Remove steering wheel retaining nut.
5. Using puller tool NO. J 1859-03 or equivalent, remove steering wheel from column, Fig. 6.
6. Remove horn switch retaining screws and horn switch from steering wheel, Fig. 7.
7. Remove rear steering wheel cover attaching screws, then the cover.
8. Reverse procedure to install, torque steering wheel nut to 25 ft. lbs.
9. On all models equipped with the SIR or inflatable restraint systems, enable system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG ACTIVATION.
