Cuts Out/Misses

DEFINITION:

Steady pulsation or jerking that follows engine speed, usually more pronounced as engine load increases. Not normally felt above 1500 rpm or 30 mph (48 km/H). The exhaust has a steady spitting sound at idle or low speed.

Perform careful visual check.
Perform compression check to verify if problem is mechanical and not electrical.

CHECK:

- Check for misfiring cylinder, spark plugs, spark plug wires, coil connection, etc.
- EGR valve for not properly cycling, stuck partly open.
- Check ignition timing.
- Check valve timing.
