Ignition Switch


1. On all models equipped with the SIR or inflatable restraint systems, disable system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG DEACTIVATION, before performing any repair procedures on or near steering column.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Remove steering wheel as described in STEERING SUSPENSION CHASSIS AND BODY COMPONENTS/STEERING/COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES/STEERING WHEEL.
4. Remove turn signal assembly as follows:
a. Remove lower switch panel, dash lighter panel and hood release cable.
b. Remove lap air deflector attaching screws, then the lap air reflector.
c. Remove left lower dash trim panel attaching screws, then lower dash trim panel.
d. Remove upper steering column mounting bolts and lower column.
e. Remove two piece steering column cover attaching screws and cover.

f. Disconnect coil assembly wiring harness from turn signal switch, then remove four retaining screws and coil assembly, Fig. 3.
g. Remove turn signal switch retaining screws, then turn signal switch.
5. Remove ignition lock as follows:
a. Turn key to Off position, depress retaining pin, then remove ignition lock cylinder from switch.

6. Disconnect electrical connector from ignition switch, then remove snap ring and spacer collar from steering shaft, Fig. 4.
7. Disconnect back drive cable from ignition switch, then remove ignition switch retaining bolts and ignition switch from steering column.
8. Reverse procedure to install.
9. On all models equipped with the SIR or inflatable restraint systems, enable system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG ACTIVATION.
