Owner Letter

(Notification Used By Chevrolet Motor Division)

April 8, 1993
Dear Geo Prizm Owner:

We at Chevrolet are very proud of the Geo Prizm line, and sincerely hope that you are happy with your vehicle. We are also proud of the warranty coverage that we provide you. Sometimes, however, we need to make some special arrangements so that things which might happen, even to a very small number of our customers, are handled properly.

Recently, General Motors has determined that certain 1989-90 Geo Prizm model vehicles may experience an engine surge/"chuggle" at highway driving speeds above 45 miles per hour. This condition may be initiated by a slight "tip-in" acceleration or by a deceleration "coast" condition. The surge/"chuggle" may range from a discrete, but annoying, "bump" lasting a second or less, to a long term bucking sensation lasting for a prolonged period of time.

This condition is unacceptable to us, and we are certain that it would be unacceptable to you if it occurred in your vehicle. As a result, we want you to know that if this condition does occur in your vehicle, it will most likely be covered under the 5-year, 50,000 mile Emission Warranty that came with your Geo Prizm and will be repaired free of charge (for California residents this Emission Warranty period may differ depending on model year of vehicle). Some vehicles, however, will have exceeded the mileage requirement of the Emission Warranty. For these vehicles, Chevrolet has issued a Special Policy which will cover the condition described above, free of charge and regardless of ownership, until April 8, 1994 with no deductible.

Correction in either situation will consist of installing a new manifold absolute pressure (MAP) wiring harness connector and sensor.

If you have already experienced this condition, and you have paid to have it repaired, you may contact your Chevrolet dealer to seek reimbursement. Connecticut, Virginia and Wisconsin residents must write to Chevrolet Motor Division, Customer Assistance Center, P.O. Box 7047, Troy, Mi. 48007-7047, for reimbursement. In either situation, please provide your original paid receipts or invoices verifying the repair, the amount charged, proof of your payment and date of payment of those charges. This information must be provided by October 8, 1993 (this time limitation for presenting the original paid receipt may be longer depending upon the law in your state).

If your vehicle has not experienced this condition, do nothing at this time. Just place this letter in the glovebox with your owner's manual and other warranty information in case you should need to take advantage of this policy in the future. If you sell or trade your car anytime during this additional warranty period, please leave the information with the owner's manual so the new owner will be aware of eligibility during the unexpired portion of the coverage.

Should your have any questions regarding this matter, please feel free to call us. Our toll free number is 1-800-222-1020, and one of our Customer Assistance Specialists will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

We are very glad to have you as a customer and hope your will choose Chevrolet again when you make your next vehicle purchase.
