3.7L WITH 6R80 TRANSMISSION - BUILT FROM
11/1/2010 TO 11/30/2010-DTC P0741

FORD:
2011 Mustang, F-150

ISSUE
Some 2011 Mustang and F-150 vehicles equipped with a 3.7L engine and 6R80 transmission built from 11/1/2010 through 11/30/2010 may have the malfunction indicator light (MIL) on with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0741 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM).

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Using IDS verify the presence of DTC P0741, clear code and road test.

a. Warm the transmission to 37 °C (100 °F) (PID TFT).

b. Drive at 72-96 Km/h (45-60 MPH) for 20 seconds at steady throttle.

c. Brake to a stop.

d. Warm transmission to minimum of 71 °C (160 °F) (PID TFT).

e. Repeat steps b and c two (2) more times.

2. Check for DTCs.

a. If the P0741 code returns as transmission fluid temperature reaches 71 °C (160 °F) or higher, replace the torque converter, refer to the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 307-01.

b. If the P0741 code does not return as transmission fluid temperature reaches 71 °C (160 °F) or higher, discontinue with this procedure and refer to WSM, Section 307-01 subroutines for normal diagnostics.
