AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - HILL START ASSIST
LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, ENGINE
CRANKS/NO START, AND/OR MIL WITH DTC P0315,
P0335-P0338, U0401

FORD:
2011 Fiesta

This article supersedes TSB 10-25-1 to remove the production fix date, update the Title, Issue Statement and Service Procedure.

ISSUE
Some 2011 Fiesta vehicles equipped with automatic transmission may exhibit one or more of the following: hill start assist light, traction control light, engine cranks/no start, check engine light with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0315, P0335-P0338, U0401.

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove crankshaft position (CKP) sensor and inspect for contact damage. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-14.

2. Is CKP sensor damaged?

a. Yes - Go to Step 6.

b. No - Go to Step 3.

3. Remove the starter motor. Refer to WSM, Section 303-06.





4. Using starter motor hole for access, inspect flexplate for high weld material and/or weld burrs at the six (6) tone ring to flexplate welds. Rotate the crankshaft in a clockwise direction to view each of the six (6) welds. Weld is considered high if more than 1 mm (1/32") higher than the tone ring. (Figure 1)

NOTE
ROTATE THE ENGINE IN A CLOCKWISE DIRECTION ONLY OR ENGINE DAMAGE WILL OCCUR. REFER TO WSM, SECTION 307-11.

5. Is high weld or burr present?

a. Yes - Go to Step 6.

b. No - Reinstall CKP sensor and starter motor. Continue with normal diagnostics for DTC P0315.

6. Remove transaxle. Refer to WSM, Section 307-11.

7. Replace both flexplate and CKP sensor. Refer to WSM, Sections 303-01 and 303-14.

8. Install transaxle. Refer to WSM, Section 307-11.

NOTE
SUSPECT PARTS HAVE BEEN REMOVED FROM SERVICE STOCK. REPLACE FLEXPLATE WITH EXISTING SERVICE STOCK TO FIX.
