Condenser to Evaporator Line
Removal and Installation
All vehicles
1. Recover the refrigerant.
2. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Vehicle Jacking and Lifting.
3. Remove the 9 lower radiator air deflector screws and the lower radiator air deflector.
4. Remove the condenser outlet fitting nut and disconnect the fitting.
- Discard the O-ring seal and gasket seal.
- To install, tighten to 15 Nm (133 lb-in).
5. Disconnect the positive and negative battery cables. For additional information, refer to Battery.
6. Remove the positive battery cable nut at the junction box, detach the battery cable pin-type retainer and position the battery cable aside.
7. Remove the ground strap bolt at the RH shock tower.
8. Remove the high-pressure service gauge port valve extension bracket bolt.
- To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
5.4L vehicles
9. Drain the engine coolant. For additional information, refer to Cooling System.
10. Disconnect the engine-side heater hose connections.
11. Remove the EGR system module tube. For additional information, refer to Emission Control Systems.
4.6L and 5.4L vehicles
12. Remove the battery tray. For additional information, refer to Battery.
13. Remove the upper radiator sight shield.
14. Disconnect the 3 PCM electrical connectors.
15. Disconnect the electrical connector at the PCM bracket and detach the wire harness pin-type retainer.
16. Loosen the 2 lower PCM bracket bolts.
17. Remove the PCM bracket bolt near the PCM electrical connectors.
18. Remove the junction box bolt and nut.
19. Position the junction box aside and remove the PCM bracket stud.
20. Remove the PCM and PCM bracket as an assembly.
All vehicles
21. Disconnect the electrical connector at the front of the RH shock tower and detach the wire harness pin-type retainer.
22. Detach the 2 wire harness pin-type retainers at the RH shock tower.
23. Detach the 2 condenser-to-evaporator line clips.
24. Remove the Thermostatic Expansion Valve (TXV) fitting nut and disconnect the fitting.
- Discard the gasket seals.
25. Detach the condenser-to-evaporator line from the TXV fitting bracket.
26. Remove the condenser-to-evaporator line.
27. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Install new O-ring seals.
- Add the correct amount of clean PAG oil to the refrigerant system. For additional information, refer to the Refrigerant Oil Adding procedure.
28. Evacuate, leak test and charge the refrigerant system.
