Part 2

Transaxle

Installation (Steps 28-55)
28. Install the RH intermediate shaft in the transaxle and position it in the wheel hub.





29. NOTE: Install new locknuts and a new intermediate shaft bearing cap.

Install the bearing cap for the intermediate bearing and new locknuts.
^ Tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).





30. Using the special tool, install the halfshafts in the wheel hubs.





31. Install both lower control arm ball joints in the knuckles and install the pinch bolts.
^ Tighten to 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.).





32. Install the front brake hoses on the struts and install the clips.





33. NOTE: RH shown, LH similar.

Install the halfshaft nuts.
^ Tighten to 270 Nm (199 ft. lbs.).





34. Install the front wheels and tires.

35. NOTE: Inspect the transmission fluid filler tube O-ring for damage before installing the transmission fluid filler tube.

Install the transmission fluid filler tube.
^ Tighten to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.).





36. Install the power steering hose retainers and the wiring harness retainer on the transmission fluid filler tube.





37. Install the transmission fluid level indicator.





38. Connect the bottom PCM electrical connector.





39. Connect the throttle control electrical connector.





40. Install the selector lever cable in the selector lever cable clip.





41. Install the selector lever cable in the selector lever cable bracket.





42. Connect the selector lever cable end onto the manual control lever.





43. Install the transmission fluid filler tube bolt.
^ Tighten to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.).





44. Connect the turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor electrical connector.





45. NOTE: The transmission range (TR) connector seal is a high compression type and requires a "press to click" installation for a weatherproof seal.

Connect the electrical connectors.
1 TR sensor.
2 Transaxle solenoid electrical connector.





46. Position the air cleaner in place and tighten the air cleaner outlet pipe clamp.
^ Tighten to 4 Nm (35 inch lbs.).





47. NOTE: Partial zero emissions vehicle (PZEV) shown, non-PZEV similar.

Connect the crankcase ventilation hose and connect the brake booster vacuum hose.





Partial zero emissions vehicle (PZEV)

48. Tighten the air cleaner inlet hose clamp.
^ Tighten to 4 Nm (35 inch lbs.).





Non-PZEV

49. Install the 2 bolts.
^ Tighten to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.).





All vehicles

50. NOTE: PZEV shown, non-PZEV similar.

Connect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector.





51. Position the battery tray in place and install the 4 wiring harness retainers on the battery tray.





52. Position the battery tray on the studs and install the 3 battery tray nuts.
^ Tighten to 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.).





53. NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven to relearn the strategy.

Install the battery. For additional information, refer to Battery.
54. Fill the transaxle with clean transmission fluid.
55. Repower the supplemental restraints system (SRS). For additional information, refer to Air Bag Systems.
