Removal

1. Remove the front wheel and tire.

2. CAUTION: Leave the tie-rod end retaining nut in place to protect the ball joint stud or damage to the ball joint can occur.

Loosen the tie-rod end retaining nut.





3. CAUTION: Protect the ball joint seal using a soft cloth to prevent damage.

Using the special tool, detach the tie-rod from the wheel knuckle.
^ Remove and discard the retaining nut.





4. Detach the lower arm from the wheel knuckle.





5. CAUTION: Support the halfshaft. The inner joint must not be bent more than 18 degrees and the outer joint must not be bent more than 45 degrees or damage to the halfshaft assembly can occur.

Using the special tools, detach the halfshaft from the transaxle.
^ Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.





6. Remove the halfshaft seal.

Installation

1. Using the special tools, install the halfshaft seal.





2. CAUTION: Support the halfshaft. The inner joint must not be bent more than 18 degrees and the outer joint must not be bent more than 45 degrees or damage to the halfshaft assembly can occur.

CAUTION: Correctly guide the halfshaft into the transaxle or damage to the halfshaft seal can occur.

CAUTION: Make sure the circlip is correctly seated or fluid loss, damage to the transaxle, or damage to the halfshaft can occur.

Attach the halfshaft to the transaxle.





3. Attach the lower arm to the wheel knuckle.
^ Tighten to 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.).





4. WARNING: Do not reuse a tie rod-to-wheel knuckle nut. This can result in nut failure and loss of steering control. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious injury to vehicle occupant(s).

Attach the tie-rod end to the wheel knuckle.
^ Tighten to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).





5. Install the front wheel and tire.
6. Check the transmission fluid level and top off with transmission fluid, if necessary.
