REAR DOOR WATER LEAK RESULTING IN WATER
ON REAR FLOOR - 4 DOOR ONLY

This article supersedes TSB 8-23-7 to remove the production fix date.
ISSUE
Some 2008 Focus 4dr vehicles may exhibit a water leak at the rear doors resulting in water accumulating on the rear floor. This may be due to excessive water entering the door cavity and perforating the water shield.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Verify water leak is coming from the interior of the door panel. Replace the belt molding and inspect water shield seal.
1. Remove the interior door panel on the leaking side per Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-05.
2. Using a garden hose, run water over the exterior of the window and door while inspecting for water leaking past the interior plastic water shield.
3. If water is found to be leaking past the plastic water shield, inspect the water shield sealer clear door drains, and install revised belt molding:
a. Closely inspect the plastic water shield seal for any skipped or incorrectly placed sealer. If any sealer is missing or not placed correctly, apply Motorcraft� Ultra Silicone Sealant as necessary. (Figure 1)
b. Inspect the door drains located at the bottom of the door cavity. Clear any debris/blockage that may be present.
c. Install revised belt molding. The revised molding incorporates an additional foam seal to reduce and redirect the water entering the door cavity.
4. Install interior door trim panel per WSM, Section 501-05.
