CARPET PULLS OUT AT SILL PLATE - 4-DOOR ONLY

FORD:
2008 Focus

ISSUE
Some 2008 Focus 4-door vehicles built on or before 5/27/2008 may exhibit the carpet pulling out from under the front door sill plate area. This may be perceived as the carpet being cut short, but is caused by inadequate carpet retention to the body sill plate area.

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove the front door scuff plate trim panel. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-05.

NOTE
VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO 4/22/2008 MAY REQUIRE SCUFF PLATE TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT DUE TO RETENTION CLIP CHANGES. VEHICLES BUILT AFTER THIS DATE HAVE A DIFFERENT CLIP DESIGN TO AID IN REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION.

2. Install a 4" by 2" (100 mm by 50 mm) strip of Velcro (hook side), (obtain locally), to the vehicles body. Locate the Velcro strip mid-way between the two (2) center scuff plate retention holes, with 1/2 installed onto the vehicles body and 1/2 installed onto the plastic wire harness protective covering. (Figure 1)

3. Attach the backside of the carpet to the Velcro strip firmly.

4. Install the front door scuff plate. Refer to WSM, Section 501-05.
