Removal and Installation
All seats
1. Lift the rear seat cushion(s) and fold forward to access the safety belt lower anchor and buckle bolts.
2. CAUTION: Make sure a webbing retainer is fitted at least 200 mm (7.87 in) towards the safety belt retractor from the webbing stop.
NOTE: The safety belt webbing retainer is supplied with new safety belts. Do not use any other retaining method.
Install the safety belt webbing retainer.
3. NOTE: Make sure the safety belt webbing is not twisted prior to installation.
Remove the bolt and detach the safety belt lower anchor (rear center) and safety belt buckle.
- To install, tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).
4. Fold down the rear seat backrest(s).
Three-door and wagon
5. NOTE: Make sure the safety belt webbing is not twisted prior to installation.
Remove the 2 bolts and detach the 2 safety belt lower anchors (rear outboard, 1 shown).
- To install, tighten to 38 Nm (28 lb-ft).
6. NOTE: Make sure the safety belt webbing is not twisted prior to installation.
Detach the safety belt webbing from the top of the backrest.
- Feed the safety belt webbing through the elastic loops.
All seats
7. Remove the rear seat backrest(s).
- Remove the 2 or 4 outer backrest retainer bolts.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
- Remove the 4 backrest retainer bolts from the center hinge locking plate, if equipped.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
- Remove the rear seat backrest(s).
8. NOTE: Make sure the safety belt webbing is not twisted prior to installation.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Make sure the safety belts and buckles are accessible to the occupants after installation.
- Verify the safety belt retractor operates without excessive effort or binding.
