Thermostat: Service and Repair

Thermostat - 4.6L - (3V)

Removal
1. Drain the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding.
2. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction.
3. Remove the 2 thermostat housing bolts and separate the lower and upper thermostat housings.
^ Discard the thermostat O-ring seal and remove the thermostat.

Installation

1. NOTE: Lubricate the O-ring seal with clean engine coolant.

Install a new thermostat with the smaller plate facing upward and the O-ring seal.
2. Position the lower and upper thermostat housings together and install the 2 bolts.
^ Tighten to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
3. Install the air cleaner outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction.
4. Fill and bleed the cooling system.
