Normal Operation
The fuel level is determined using a variable resistance fuel level sender unit, with a resistance range between approximately 15 ohms at empty (E) and 160 ohms at full (F). The fuel level sender unit is hardwired to the instrument cluster between the signal circuit 8-GA7 (WH/RD) and the return circuit 9-GA7 (BN/RD), which is grounded internally within the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster monitors the resistance readings that are sent to the instrument cluster from the fuel pump module and commands a corresponding movement of the fuel gauge pointer.

Possible Causes
- circuit 8-GA7 (WH/RD) open, short to ground, or short to voltage
- circuit 9-GA7 (BN/RD) open, short to ground, or short to voltage
- fuel pump sender
- fuel tank
- instrument cluster
