PINPOINT TEST F: THE CHARGING SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR FLICKERS OR IS INTERMITTENT

Normal Operation
With the engine running, the charging system warning indicator should be off. The sense A-circuit 30-BA25 (RD) to the generator field coil carries 13-15 volts. The I (ignition) circuit 10-BA25 (GY/RD) is used to turn on the voltage regulator. This circuit carries 0.0 volts with the key in the ON position and the engine not running (1-8 volts with the engine running). The battery positive output (B+) circuit 30-BA6 (RD) is the generator output supplied to the battery and electrical system.

NOTE: If the I-circuit 10-BA25 (GY/RD) is open or short to ground, the generator will not function. If the engine speed exceeds 3,000 rpm, the generator self-excites, and begins to function normally (the battery light turns off and the generator operates normally) until the engine is turned off. This is a limp-home mode for customer safety.

Possible Causes
- rear battery junction box (BJB) fuse 15 (5A) connections
- generator
- generator connections
- instrument cluster
